✨ The Spiritual Significance
Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas — the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is also the most important temple in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. According to legend, the Pandavas from the Mahabharata sought Lord Shiva’s blessings here to atone for their sins after the Kurukshetra war.
Shiva, unwilling to forgive them easily, disguised himself as a bull and fled. When the Pandavas recognized him, he dived into the earth, leaving behind his hump — which is believed to be the rock formation worshipped in the sanctum of Kedarnath Temple today.
